SEARCH BY AGE

At the end of a long day, or long work week, we all look for some means of escape. Some people watch their favorite sitcom re-runs to relax. Some people go to the movies. With small children, I am housebound in the evenings, and I prefer to pick up a book.

When I pick up a book, I want to sink into a world that will tune out my own. Sometimes I reach for well worn volumes that I have already read several years past, and I escape into another world, peopled by characters that are as familiar to me as my own family. The books that I prefer tend to have strong heroes or heroines: sometimes extraordinary people with magical powers, sometimes ordinary people whose actions make them extraordinary.

When I find an author that I like, I tend to read ALL of their work. When I am finished, I search high and low for other authors that can take me to other worlds on other adventures. On this site, I list the authors that I have discovered and their books that I most recommend. If you can recommend other authors, please do!! Send me your opinions, please.

These three books fill in some pieces of the tapestry that started with the previous series. They are quick moving stories and entertaining. Strong female protagonists beat impossible odds. I am tacking on Kerowyn's Tale: By the Sword to the end of this series as it follows chronologically.

The Old Kingdom Series

Young Adult and up

In this fantasy/horror series our heroes (and heroines) are fighting death itself. It takes a moment into the first book to acclimate to the world, culture and rules that Garth Nix has created, as the heroine is a necromancer who's job is to put to rest the undead. If you decide to read past the first book, be committed to read the third, because the second leaves you hanging.
